Tier 4 Child Visa Application

2 min read

A Tier 4 Child Visa bears many similarities to the Tier 4 General Student Visa, though is available for individuals under the age of 18. Tier 4 General Student Visa is granted upon the applicant providing evidence of a formal offer from an educational institution and the financial capacity to cover all applicable costs.  In the case of a Tier 4 Child Visa, the applicant must prove that they or their parents are able to cover the costs of their education in the UK.

The same rules apply regarding evidence of a formal offer from a recognised educational institution.

A total of 30 points must be earned through receipt of a Certificate of Acceptance to Study (CAS) number, with which a full CAS statement will indicate how the institution determined the eligibility of the applicant. Evidence of available funds or “maintenance” to cover the costs of their education must also be submitted, for which the UK will award 10 points for the duration of their first year of study in the UK.

Please note that the financial requirements vary in accordance with both location and the type of educational institution the applicant will attend. For example, studying in London typically carries elevated living costs, just as costs associated with some boarding schools can be significantly higher.
