Global Talent Visa Guidance

The UK’s Global Talent Visa pathway was created to encourage highly skilled individuals from outside the EEA and Switzerland to live and work in the country on a temporary or permanent basis. The pathway is open exclusively to individuals officially endorsed in science, humanities, engineering, medicine, research, digital technology or the arts.

If you would like to discuss your eligibility to live and work in the United Kingdom under the Global Talent Visa scheme, contact a member of the team at Aristone Solicitors for an obligation-free consultation.

What qualifications are eligible under the Global Talent Visa Pathway

This popular pathway for entry to the United Kingdom is open exclusively to individuals considered to be exceptionally skilled in the fields of science, humanities, engineering, medicine, research, digital technology or the arts.

In order to qualify under the Global Talent Visa, you must be able to provide evidence that you are a recognised leader (aka global talent) or an emerging leader (aka global promise) in your field of expertise. The scheme is also open exclusively to persons from outside the EEA and Switzerland.

The specialist fields within which talented individuals may apply under the Global Talent Visa pathway extend to:

  • Science
  • Medicine
  • Humanities
  • Film and television
  • Fashion
  • Engineering
  • Technology and digital
  • The arts
  • Architecture

Endorsement is necessary to be considered as a leader or emerging leader in your field, which must be obtained by a recognised endorsing body.

About the Global Talent Visa

The Global Talent Visa system was introduced in 2020, as a replacement for the now-defunct Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa route. The Home Office stated that its intention was to make the United Kingdom a priority destination for talented individuals worldwide, enabling them to live and work in the UK with fewer restrictions and reduced red tape.

Some of the advantages of the new Global Talent Visa include no limitations of how many visas can be issued each year, no restrictions relating to job offers and no minimum or maximum salary requirements. There is also no requirement for eligible applicants to provide evidence of their English language skills, or to sit a formal English language test.

Those who qualify will also be permitted to bring dependents with them into the country, who can study or work in the UK with comparatively few restrictions.

Endorsement as an exceptional talent in any of the fields listed above must come from one of several approved endorsing bodies, including but not limited to the following:

  • Arts Council England
  • The British Academy
  • The Royal Academy of Engineering
  • The Royal Society
  • Tech Nation
  • UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
